The final step in the process was consolidating the items. This was complicated by the haphazard way they had initially been stored on rolls, with one collection sometimes spanning as many as fifteen different rolls. Once we had flattened the bulk of the items, we could begin organizing them by collection. I sorted our database by collection and combined our information with documentation of items that had been previously re-housed, so that it was possible to integrate collections not only within the most recent set of rolls, but with other items from the same collection that had been flattened years previously. Where possible, I began with large collections, so that they could have dedicated folders. However, many collections had only one or two oversize items in total, and space restrictions demanded that these items share folder space with other collections. Nevertheless, the change from one collection spread across several rolls to one collection in two folders has made access significantly easier.
